Joanna joined CJA as a Junior Research Analyst in 2019 and was promoted to Senior Research Practice Coordinator in 2022. She works closely with staff from CJA’s Research, Operations, Supervised Release, and Information Technology teams to support data tracking and evaluation for pilots and new initiatives. Prior to joining CJA, Joanna was employed by Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbilities as a Forensic Associate, where she conducted criminal justice policy and legal research, largely concerning people deemed incompetent to stand trial and diverting individuals with serious mental illness from incarceration. She has also been employed by the National Center for Victims of Crime, where she worked in various capacities, including advancing laws and policies that created resources and secured rights and protections for victims at the federal and state levels, as well as provided technical support to attorneys representing crime victims in civil actions. Joanna has her M.S. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Forensics from Drexel University. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 2012 with a B.A. in English Literature, where she was a member of the Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving team, as well as an Olympic Trials qualifier.
